Auditory Verbal Techniques
Here are some of the auditory verbal techniques that promote the development of listening, spoken language, play and learning.
Acoustic highlighting
Emphasising a word in a phrase or sentence to make it stand out, “We’re going to the park'“
Modelling language
Giving your child the words they need to say what they’re thinking at their language level, “You want more juice’
Auditory Closure
Leaving a gap in a phrase, sentence or song for the child to fill, e.g. “The wheels on the bus go ………”, “Ready, steady……’
Scaffolding
Helping your child to build their understanding and use of language to move on to the next stage, e.g. by extending what they say, “Yes the milk has all gone’
